Team

The Science Communication Conference is organised by a group of motivated students every year. Read all about the 2024 team below!

From upper left to down right, here you can read all about the organisers of this years conference:

Hi guys! My name is Daniël and I am a Biology and Science Communication student. My passion lies in conservation and climate change. I’ve always been interested in animals, especially rhinos. During my Biology education, I’ve noticed I wanted to play a more relevant role in communication science to the public, and showing them why animals are so important to us. That is why I decided to do science communication! During the organisation of this conference, I will be in charge of social media and the website, so I will get the chance to show you what’s going to happen at the conference! After this, I want to work in the conservation field, hopefully as a project manager. But first, let’s focus on the conference. See you there!

Hi everyone! My name is Nienke and I am a biologist. For my bachelor’s degree, I used genomic tools to determine the origin of introduced spadefoot toads. Sounds cool, right? Communicating about research projects like this has taught me how important and especially fun science communication is. I am not sure where I will end up, but I aim to stay in the field of science communication. I write occasionally, read a ton of books about all kinds of interesting topics, and have an innate love for organising stuff, which is quite useful during the organisation of this conference. I hope to see you there!

Hello, my name is Lorenzo, an Italian student in Leiden. I’m a molecular biologist, but I’m passionate about everything related to human anatomy and health.  Science communication is the tool I want to use to make a positive impact and bring science into the public debate. I love making science graphics, like illustrations and animations, to engage and entertain people. I believe in the importance and power of human resources and dynamic collaborations, so what’s better than a SciCom event? I can’t wait to see you there!

Hi, I am Selah! I am 23 years old and I am studying for a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences with a specialization in Science Communication and Society at Leiden University. I am very happy to be involved in the organisation of this conference because I am not sure what I want my SciCom future to look like right now. At the moment, I really like science communication in musea, policy, and dialogue. By talking and networking with other people I hope to figure out what I want to do. I hope to have a chat with you at the conference!

Hello, my name is Brenda. I am a 25 years old Physics and Science Communication & Society student. As long as I can remember I have liked explaining to my parents, friends and everybody who’s willing to listen, what I learned at school and later on about my study and research. Therefore I used to think I would become a teacher, though, I found out that the SciCom field has even more in store! With all the recently learned new skills it is hard to choose between all possible career paths but the future I am currently visualizing is one at the edge of formal and informal science education. Within the team, I am in charge of the budget, and in my spare time I like walking with my dog, baking bread, and doing Japanese martial arts.

We would also like to thank Theo and Yuchi for their help during the development process of this conference!
